The automobile experts of the world project an increasing global demand for the cost effective and
efficient hybrid electric vehicles. A majority of the substantial fuel economy benefit derived
from today's HEV comes from the recovery of kinetic energy through regenerative braking.
The amount of regenerative braking energy recovered is effected by the cycle on which the
vehicle is operating and design of its storage system with battery being a limited factor.
The emphasis is placed upon efficiency, durability and cost of the storage system.
Ultra-capacitor in this regard is the most enabling technology.
Not only it would store almost 96% of the recuperated energy of breaking up but it would also
return it back at acceleration with the same efficiency, power and speed. It would also endure
up to 100,000 complete cycles sufficient for at least seven years of continuous usage.
Our dedicated to automobile applications supercapacitors are extremely powerful and inexpensive
multicell products. One High voltage unit can replace a large number of single sell devices
requiring series connection and resistors for balancing. For example: an ultra-capacitor storage
system for Orion VI LMCS would be comprised of 14 PSCap-ECOND-300/90 connected in series and
parallel. Its total rated capacity would be 1260 kJ sufficient for the required 900 kJ of net
usable capacity. This system could satisfy either 600V or 900V voltage requirement and would
need no forced cooling nor power electronics for balancing. This system's weight would be within
500kg. (Compare to the Orion VI LMCS lead-acid storage system that weights about 2200 kg and
is capable to accept only 8% of its kinetic energy.) Reiterating again for clarity - one of
the main advantages of Electronic Vehicle of any type is its capability to regenerate energy
of breaking thus increasing its overall efficiency. Speed and efficiency with which the
storage system is able to accept and return the energy flow is, clearly, the most important
characteristic of its performance. Due to acutely short deceleration times, allowed by the most
cycles, only capacitors are capable to accept and store the inrush of energy with minimum losses.
The issue of efficiency is so pronounced that only those ultra-capacitors that have RC
product less than 1 second can be effectively used. All electric vehicles, regardless
of their type, would substantially improve their mileage by incorporating ultra-capacitors.
Tavrima is prepared to meet an increasing demand for the cost effective commercially
available supercapacitors produced on our flexible production lines in accordance with our
customer's most stringent specifications.
